Christmas to me is all about family and friends. It is a time to celebrate and look back on all the things good and bad that happened over the past year and look forward to what the future holds for us and our loved ones. For many people all over the world, it is a time for families to gather together and celebrate the holidays with food and singing.
The turkey seems to take center stage on the menu along with dressing and cranberry sauce. People often give each other presents which are opened at these family events during Christmas.
For me, the holidays are not about what gifts that we give each other, but about the time we spend with each other and the memories that we create. I once asked a friend what he wanted for his birthday.
He stated that he did not want presents for his birthday, but what was important to him was creating memories with his friends and family. Many times we are not able to see our families throughout the year because of distance and/ or our schedules, and those memories that we create are even more important than any material gift.
Here are a few holiday events taking place in Milwaukee this year that may help you to create those memories.
1. Milwaukee Winter Farmer's Market - This annual market brings together about 0 local vendors together at the Mitchell Domes. They offer high-quality fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry, and dairy products. Perhaps you can find what you need for your holiday feast?
2. Milwaukee Holiday Lights Festival - What reminds us of the holidays more than seeing the neighborhood light up with outdoor lights and the neighborhood outdoor decorations? Perhaps it will give you inspiration for your own holiday decoration?
3. Holiday Folk Fair International - Another great tradition of the holidays and my favorite part - the food! Come see the different types of food from other cultures.
4. Country Christmas. You can drive through a giant lights display on the Country Christmas Trail and at the end see the Christmas Village and the Streets of Bethelem.
5. MillerCoors Holiday Lites. You get to see the famous Miller Caves and a spectacular light show. In the end, all adults of legal drinking age get to sample Frederick Miller's, Chocolate Lager.
6. Christmas in the Ward. Fireworks, Santa and another great light display. Oh, did I forget the live music and reindeer?
7. Old World Christmas. Stroll through an 1880's village decorated in Christmas greenery and even enjoy a sleigh ride.
8. A Christmas Carol. November 26th. Enjoy the holiday classic of Scrooge and Tiny Tim.
9. Trans-Siberian Orchestra. December 27.
